The role

As part of our ongoing strategy to offer better flexibility to our customers and to reduce our prices, Luxinar has invested in a new SMT line in the factory and bring PCB Assembly in-house.

The SMT (Surface Mount Technology) Technical Operator will be responsible for setting-up, changing over and running the equipment used in establishing SMT electronic circuits. The role involves using the SMT equipment to mount assembled components like resistors, capacitors, transistors, and integrated circuits on the chassis panel. They will also collaborate with SMT technicians and engineers on PCB’s for critical defect data. They will be fully trained to operate the equipment and everything needed to be responsible for running the line without support.

This Tech Op role is a Late Shift position i.e. Mon-Thurs 13:45-22:00, Fri 13:45-20:45

The SMT Technical Operator will help monitor and run the equipment hence will address all issues (other than a breakdown) and will look to resolve them.  They will be trained as to how to set-up offline, changeover the line and will be provided with the relevant component/material knowledge to ensure the correct components are fitted. 

The SMT Technical Operator will also inspect product at the end of the line and so will need to be compliant with IPC Class 3 inspection standards (Note: training will be provided).  Experience of soldering would be of benefit but boards will be reworked offline so this is not essential. 

  • To set-up and run SMT lines to specified efficiency and process quality levels
  • To address all line SMT issues, resolving any machine-related stoppages, often without immediate support.
  • Input and preparation of process control documentation
  • To check and load components.
  • To conduct visual inspection to ensure good quality product, working to IPC Class 3 standard (following training)
  • To hand fit components when required.
  • To ensure SMT machines are maintained regularly according to instructions.
  • Fully responsible for quality and output
  • To raise quality issues feedback

What you’ll need to bring

  • Ideally some knowledge of SMT assembly equipment & assembly processes, althogh training will be given
  • Excellent communicator, written, IT, and verbal.
  • PC/IT literate, using PCs and tablets as required.
  • Motivated.
  • Good time management skills.
  • Calm and collected with the ability to work under pressure.
